Talking about Tenacity

Howdy! You won’t have heard from me for a while, I’ve been off having my twin bubbas so life has been pretty full-on and, to be honest, I was craving a social media holiday. Anyways, I couldn’t keep quiet for long and have lots of new musings to share.

So, I’ve been reading (well actually listening, love an audiobook) a fab book called ‘You Are a Badass’ by Jen Sincero which is all about pushing your comfort zone, perspective and tenacity.

TENACITY – now that’s not a word I hear very often but its one that immediately jumped out at me as significant. Here’s what it means (thanks to ye-old dictionary):

the quality or fact of being very determined; determination.

Simple, right? Easy to stay on track and keep focused on your goal without distraction, isn’t it? Well maybe it is when the going is good, things are running smoothly and your full of confidence, but what about when the going gets tough? Cue excuses!

“I don’t have time”

“I’ll just quickly see how many likes my latest post got on Insta”

“Maybe it’s pointless? I’ll probably fail anyway”

This is something we are all good at. If there were a prize for the amount of excuses we could come up with in a day, I’m pretty sure we would all stand a good chance of winning. The biggest problem with excuses is that we are often totally unaware we are making them – excuses often creep in cleverly disguised as habits.

Do you find yourself scrolling on Facebook only to be presented with things you have already seen? Oh, that’s because you checked it just five minutes ago! HABIT

Do you refresh your emails midway through completing the first page of your new website only to see you have no more new messages? Oh, that’s because you cleared them all already! HABIT

Do you stand in front of the fridge wondering if you are really hungry? Oh that’s because you ate lunch already! HABIT

Without sheer TENACITY and a dollop of awareness we automatically rely on habits to distract us when things seem challenging or overwhelming. That seed of self-doubt begins to be nurtured and we find anyway to delay the one thing that might actually catapult us to the next level. For me, TENACITY is the grit, determination and badass resilience it takes to break these habits. To notice when these old, unhelpful, self-sabotaging habits begin to surface and to consciously decide to override them. This will be the difference between you growing in areas of your life that feel stagnant or staying stuck wondering why life never seems to get past a certain point.

The harder things get, the more you are tested, the more you need to dig deep, stay focused and trust that the life you are looking for is just around the next ‘challenging’ bend.

With love,

Busting Meditation Myths …

Meditation is a buzz word at the moment! It is starting to become a mainstream concept that a calmer, quiter mind can lead to a healthier and happier life. As a meditation teacher, this has meant more interest in mindful practices from my clients but has also brought to light many meditation misconceptions.

I hear the same hesitations over and over again from all kinds of people that stop them from embracing this invaluable life tool. I wanted to ‘out’ some of these Meditation Myths in the hope that it will encourage some of you to see what meditation is all about.

Myth #1 “I don’t know how to meditate, I have never been taught!”

Many people think you need to have a meditation induction by a particular guru or choose a form of meditation to follow. THIS IS NOT TRUE. The beauty of meditation is you can start right now with no particular meditation knowledge and no props!

Myth #2 “I don’t have enough time!”

Of course you do! We can all make time for the things that can improve our quality of life. You just need 5-10 minutes three times a week and I promise you will see a difference!

Myth #3 “Once I start, I have to practice everyday and I just can’t be bothered!”

Anything you MAKE yourself do will become a chore. Make your meditation practice fit in with you and use it when you feel you most need it.

Myth #4 “But meditation is SO boring!”

Meditation can improve your physical health, it can transform your career, it can make you feel good about yourself and can improve your relationships. It can literally change your life! Still think it’s boring?

Myth #5 “I’m not a spiritual person!”

Awesome, you don’t have to be! Meditation is a tool. It is a tool to help you relax, destress and calm your mind – why do you need to be a spiritual person to want those things?

Myth #6 “I can’t control my thoughts or quieten my mind!”

OK, this is a big one. There are some meditation practices out there that ask you to control your thoughts but these are not techniques you need to be practicing. Simply becoming aware of your thoughts and not putting too much attention on them is meditation.

Myth #7 “I’m not stressed so I don’t need meditation!”

Well done, that’s great that you aren’t feeling stressed. Did you know, meditation boosts immunity, helps you sleep and also helps you build better relationships. What’s not to love?

For a long time now, meditation has been bathed in mystical beliefs and spiritual history but it is my firm belief that it can help all of us deal with life. If we were only taught some basic meditation techniques as children I truly believe we would be able to cope with the emotional, physical and mental pressures we all struggle with throughout life. If this were the case I am sure the world would be a much happier and more compassionate place.

For an easy place to start your meditation journey, come over to my ‘Who Are You’ video series.

Wishing you health and happiness,

Love Your Organic & Natural Products?

As many of you know, having run Uniquely Organic EcoSpa for the last six years, I am passionate about organic and natural products. Not only am I determined to find products that look after our environment and are chemical-free but I also expect top quality. I don’t think we should compromise on quality or efficacy just because these products aren’t governed by the ‘colourful’ ingredient list we might have got used to. If anything, organic and natural products should give us better results with longer lasting, visible improvements. Our skin, hair and bodies are compatible with natural and organic ingredients – we are essentially cut from the same cloth!

My quest for new products never ends! I am always looking for new products to stock in our EcoSpa, to add to or EcoShop and, of course, to use on my own skin. Genuinely good and authentic organic and natural brands are few and far between – trust me, I have met a lot of them! To make my search easier (and a little more fun!) I decided to jump on the ‘beauty box subscription’ wagon.

Firstly, let me tell you, organic and natural versions of said beauty boxes are not easy to come by. But I found one – introducing LoveLula!

Ta-Dah - LoveLula Beauty Box!

Ok, so the box was a teeny bit disappointing but it’s what inside that counts and that did not disappoint!

  • Rose Floral Water Hydrosol, Balm Balm (30ml deluxe sample) – this is a brand I am familiar with and we actually stock their organic essential oils. They are a good, reliable company with great entry level organic products. Perfect if you like simple fragrances. Rose water is great for the skin and is also super handy for a quick refresh on the go.
  • London Hydra Plump Serum, FOM (10ml deluxe sample) – this was a totally new brand to me and the pronunciation is anyones guess but the packaging is clean and classy. Very light consistensy with a gentle aroma. The key ingredient in this product is rose so great for ageing and dehydrated skins
  • AHA Brightening Peel Mask, Madara (12.5ml deluxe sample) – a new brand to me but very nice packaging. Love a product in a box! This product is designed for more acne prone skin but I have tried this and really quite enjoyed it. Not something I would use regularly but something for a special occasion. Ooh, they also have a great website!
  • Oils of Heaven Baobab Oil, OOH! (30ml full size) – this brand currently just specialise in face oils. This product contains the ‘on-trend’ ingredient Baobab. Baobab contains omegas 3, 6 and 9 and is easily absorbed by the skin, making this a fab product for hydration. My skin felt very soft after using this!

Love Lula give you 20% off all of the brands in your box in case you find a gem and want to purchase more. I thoroughly enjoyed my first beauty box and look forward to the next one!

Wishing you health and happiness,
